Background
Interfaith Philadelphia approached us after finding our work through Google, specifically looking to partner with a local team. They had an established digital presence with a large amount of content, but over time the site had become difficult to manage and increasingly disorganized.
The organization relied heavily on its website for programs, events, and community engagement, yet the underlying CMS was running on a very outdated version of WordPress. In addition, they were using a costly third-party form solution to manage event registrations and workflows — adding unnecessary expense and friction to day-to-day operations.
Objectives
The project goals were broad but well defined:
- Modernize and stabilize an aging WordPress installation
- Reorganize a large, complex site into a clearer, more intuitive structure
- Improve usability for both visitors and administrators
- Replace expensive third-party form tools with native, integrated solutions
- Support complex event registration and organizational workflows
- Maintain strong accessibility standards
- Create a foundation that could grow with the organization
Challenges
The scale of the project was the primary challenge. As work progressed, it became clear that the site was significantly larger and more complex than initially understood. Numerous behind-the-scenes pages, custom post types, and internal workflows needed to be accounted for and migrated.
What began as a sizable project ultimately doubled in scope, requiring careful prioritization and planning to meet deadlines without compromising stability or quality.
Discovery & Planning
Given the scope, early planning was critical. We conducted a detailed review of existing content and made strategic decisions about what would be included in the initial launch versus a future phase. To stay aligned with a deadline originally set for a much smaller project, we defined a clear Version 1 launch focused on core pages, programs, and functionality, with Version 2 earmarked for secondary content.
This approach allowed the project to move forward without sacrificing long-term goals.

Design
We met individually with stakeholders across the organization to understand each program’s role and needs. From those conversations, we developed a design and structure that balanced competing priorities while serving the organization as a whole.
The resulting design was intentionally larger, bolder, and easier to read — keeping the tone fun and approachable while improving clarity, navigation, and accessibility across the site.
Development
The site was rebuilt on a modern WordPress stack using:
- Advanced Custom Fields
- BeBuilder for flexible content management
- WPForms for native event registration and workflows
- Zapier integrations to connect forms directly to their CRM
This approach eliminated reliance on costly third-party tools while giving staff full control over content and events directly within WordPress.

Launch
The redesigned Interfaith Philadelphia website delivered a modern, stable, and significantly more manageable platform for a complex, content-rich organization. By restructuring information, modernizing the CMS, and integrating critical workflows directly into the site, the project reduced operational friction while improving clarity for visitors.
The result is a scalable digital foundation that supports Interfaith Philadelphia’s programs today and positions them well for future growth.
