Background
The Wise Owl Academy offers plain-English legal education for small business owners from attorney Cheri Andrews, whose law firm site we also built. It mixes free videos with paid deeper-dive courses that include templates and checklists.
The courses lived on a third-party learning platform, with Zoom, scheduling, YouTube and shared documents patched in around it. Cheri wanted everything on her own site, without the extra subscription.
Objectives
Goals for the new academy:
- Move every course onto Cheri's own WordPress site
- Sell courses individually, with free access for her Business Counsel members
- Organize courses into clear learning paths
- Keep free foundational courses alongside paid ones
- Grow her newsletter with a free download
Challenges
Moving a course library means more than copying videos. Lessons, downloads, access rules and purchases all had to work together, and the business model shifted from a membership to individually priced courses partway through.
Video also had to stream smoothly without weighing down the site.
Discovery & Planning
We mapped the existing course library into learning paths, like New Business Foundations and Compliance & Risk Awareness, so owners can start with what fits their stage.

Design Phase
The academy keeps Cheri's friendly owl branding and teal palette, with a home page that explains who it's for and lets visitors choose a path or browse courses.
Course Catalog
LearnDash powers a catalog of more than 25 courses, with free foundational courses alongside paid ones and checkout built in.

Course Pages
Each course has its own page with lessons, downloadable templates and checklists, and video streamed from dedicated hosting so pages stay fast.
Launch & Support
Cheri has opened the academy to her Business Counsel members, and we trained her to manage it herself. We continue to host and support it.
